Pickles Deli: A Breakfast and Lunch Restaurant on Broadway in Downtown St. Louis
Anyone who has been to downtown St. Louis knows that there is no shortage of places to eat. Ballpark Village is probably the most recognizable spot, with several excellent eateries just across the street from Busch Stadium. You can find other dining experiences all across the downtown area, from grand experiences to hidden gems.
One of the latter options is Pickles, a small chain with two locations. We visited the location in the heart of the city a stone’s throw from Busch Stadium.
Getting There
Pickles Deli offers two locations. One of them can be found on the southeast corner of Broadway and Olive in downtown St. Louis (Google Maps link). The second sits on Euclid just east of Forest Park, a block or so north of Barnes-Jewish Hospital (Google Maps link).
Parking
Parking at either location will likely require paying for the privilege. With the downtown location, the nearest parking is Kiener Plaza East, a parking garage just across the street on Broadway. In 2025, the garage charges by the hour with a daily cap of $8, although that price can spike during select special events, including home Cardinals games. You can find other assorted street, lot, and garage parking within walking distance throughout the area. You can also access the downtown area via MetroLink trains, with stations just a few blocks away from Pickles.
Costs and Considerations
Pickles is open from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. The Euclid location is open on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Both locations are closed on Sundays.
As you would expect, the restaurant can get busy, especially during the lunch hour. The line moves pretty fast, though, as dine-in orders involve giving customers a number and having them sit. The dining area is not large, but there is a second floor in the downtown location that has more seating, so if things look full, take the steps just past the register.
Things to Do
Pickles offers an assortment of breakfast and lunch fare, including sandwiches. You can find the full menu on the restaurant’s website. You can order online or inside the restaurant. I spotted a table where you could pick up online orders.
Our Thoughts
I showed up at 12:30 on a weekday. There was a line stretched to near the door, but it moved quickly, with my order placed within about 10 minutes and my food brought out 5-10 minutes after that. The first floor dining area was full, but I found plenty of places to sit upstairs.
I’m a sucker for deli sandwiches and chips, so I ordered the combo meal with the Pickles Club, sour cream and chives potato chips, and a drink. (Pickles serves Pepsi products in its fountain drinks.) The sandwich featured turkey, ham, bacon, Swiss, lettuce, tomato, and avocado spread. I got mine on French bread.
It was a solid meal. The bread was soft, the meat flavorful, and the chips crisp and salty. It was an excellent sandwich, and as an added bonus I had a birds-eye view of the lower level from the bar-style seat I took upstairs.
In short, if you’re a deli sandwich fan and you’re in the area of a Pickles, drop by at least once.
